Today’s Q&A is with Steve Boleantu who is the writer, performer and creator of TIRED WAVE STOP!

The Sea Captain has one rule: life at sea. But after falling in love with a mermaid, plus taking on a new crewmember, the old man of the sea is forced to examine the costs and rewards of his stubbornness. A grown-up comedic yarn.

Antonio Asks: What makes FRIGID such a warm and welcoming experience for your production?

I’m from Toronto Canada so it’s already warmer here – but the FRIGID staff has been so welcoming and helpful, I know they got my back – much more so than the border guards.

Diánna Asks: What about this play do you feel most drawn to personally, and because of that, what message do you hope the audience walks away with?

The play was inspired by the personality of my father, although he’s never stolen a boat, he has had quite the adventures on and off land! It really is an exploration of a character and I hope the audience can walk away with the sense of escapism that the Sea Captain gets aboard his boat, the White Dove.

Karen Asks: That’s some title.  How did you come up with it – and what does it mean?

The title really reflects the journey of the Sea Captain. In this play we see him go from being a tired factory worker to the wave that just goes on and on and on out in the open sea. But eventually, all waves must come up against a force strong enough to stop them.

Stephen Asks: You must have a favorite part of your show.  What makes it your favorite?

My favourite part of the play is when the Sea Captain makes his grand escape. It’s so fun to perform that section full of uncertainty and then freedom – and to get to live that out every night is exhilarating.

Lina Asks: How much of your show was inspired by true events?

Some tense moments between Dad and I have inspired this play, and sailing, and the accidents that come with them. And I’d totally give falling in love with a mermaid heavy consideration – depends on what shell-cup size.

THM Bonus Question: If you could play a virtual game of Rock, Paper, Scissors with another FRIGID Show which show would you take on?  And what would you throw?

Boatload. What would I throw? Aren’t they probably reading this too?
